How to: Cure for mouth sores

Hello everyone... TGIF! This post is something unusual here on Fabulous Petite but it is worth reading and let me say trying.......... So I woke up this morning with this pesky sore in my mouth. How can a teeny tiny hole can hurt this much? Don't know what causes but it is not just a good feeling. I get it every now and then. I am sure you have them too. What are they? Canker sores or mouth sores are painful ulcer like sores that develop on the soft tissue inside the mouth. It stays for days and just plain bothersome when gets contact with anything you eat or drink such as something acidic like an orange juice. Even the mint flavor from my toothpaste irritates the affected area as per my experience. What causes them? I don't know and Science doesn't either.  But research suggested that stress and a lowered immune system are suspected triggers. Hmm, what am I stressing about and what the heck - I have a low immune system? All I know is that sometimes they just pop out from nowhere or sometimes when brushing my teeth and accidentally hitting the walls of my mouth or gums with the toothbrush or I unintentionally bit myself from chewing food.  Yup, this stuff happens.
To treat the sores I have an old trick that I have used in forever. I used powdered/granulated Alum. Yes... exactly, the one you find at the grocery stores spice aisle. Used as an food additive, primarily for pickling. If you are a Chemistry enthusiast, the food additive form of alum is potassium aluminum sulphate

Here's what I used to treat the mouth sore
Granulated alum(less than $3), mirror, toothpick and small plate(with few drops of water) and Q Tip.

Procedure for treating the sore

Warning: This could be a bit ugly but you are doing this at the privacy of your own bathroom so who the hell cares........

1. Put some water on your plate and moisten the tip of the Q Tip with water. The water allows the granulated alum to adhere. Get a nice gob of it.
2. Apply directly to the affected area. The trick is getting it only on the affected area and not all over your mouth. Believe me, not a bit appetizing. It taste horrible ! So be careful not to swallow or get it all over your mouth.
3. You will get this burning and stinging feeling. Leave it for at least a 1 to 5 minutes or longer if you want and able to stand it. I usually leave mine for as long as I don't feel the burning/stinging feeling anymore.  Trust me,  a little discomfort is worth the painless feeling all day.
4. The tricky part is avoiding the urge to swallow. This is when the ugly part kicks in. Since you're not swallowing, the build up of saliva will cause you to drool. Not a pretty sight but you are in your bathroom so thank goodness no one can see you, lol.
5. After the application, burning, drooling and unsightly appearance, it is now time to spit the whole mess in your sink and rinse out your mouth a few times with cold water. If you are careful not to swallow and only applied to the affected area, then the taste of you just having sucked up 10 lemons is not possible but the pain will go away.
The sore turns to a pale white color and you are painless in an instant and lasted for hours. Apply a few more times if needed throughout the day. In my experience I applied twice and my sores lated for 2-3 days compared to a week or longer.
Even my husband who thinks I am crazy for telling him my secret uses it now. He tried my trick and he's pain free right away. Long before he have googled it's effectiveness to treat mouth sores,  I am have been using granulated alum for years. Heck, that is even before we got married ! It works a lot better, cheaper with instant results compared to OTC meds around. He was skeptical at first now he reach for the bottle of alum for relief.

Trust me on this. I swear by it. It works peeps !
Thank you so much for reading. Let me know if you have tried it or have tried it in past.
This is not my usual post so appreciate your time.
Thanks from the heart.
xoxo
